Little Sparta is a garden in the Pentland Hills that Ian Hamilton Finlay built over forty years as a poem you can walk through. Classical temples, a French Revolution bed, carved aphorisms and a naval war in miniature all share the same acreage. It is stubborn, beautiful and hard to categorise, which is the point.
