A travelling cinema shows Frankenstein in a Castilian village, and a small girl goes looking for the monster in the woods. Erice shoots childhood as a state of attentive waiting. Almost nothing happens, and everything that does happens at the edge of the frame. The film is a ghost story about how children borrow from films to understand the adults around them.
